Firefighters work to put out a structure fire at 1024 Water Street in Brownsville Friday morning.

BROWNSVILLE – No one was injured by a fire that destroyed a two-unit apartment building Friday morning on Water Street.

South Brownsville Fire Chief Ed Nicholson said the building’s residents were able to exit the two-story brick structure safely but that a dog and two cats were killed in the fire, which started shortly before 9 a.m.

The state police fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze at 1024 Water St., Nicholson said.

West Brownsville, North Brownsville, Hiller, Grindstone, LaBelle, Isabella, California, Republic and Luzerne Township volunteer fire departments and Brownville Ambulance responded to the fire.
