Alligator reportedly spotted in Mon River

1 min read

Southwest Regional Police are investigating an unconfirmed sighting of an alligator Wednesday in the Monongahela River in Belle Vernon.

Police said an area resident saw what he believed was an alligator around midnight — an animal that he described as between 6 to 7 feet long swimming upstream against the current by the Water Street Wharf.

During police investigation, police determined that another possible sighting of the animal was made around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Police are working with the U.S. Coast Guard, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Anyone with information about the alligator is asked to contact police at 724-929-8484.
