Anthony J. “Tony” Bartoni
Anthony J. ‘Tony’ Bartoni, age 96, of Amend, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his family
He was born on Sunday, December 1, 1918 in Ontario, Canada, a son of Samuel Bartoni and Santina (Martini) Bartoni.
‘Tony’ was a member of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown where he served as an usher for many years.
He served his country Honorably in the United States Army 101st Airborne Glider Division and fought in the Battle of Bulge.
Tony worked for the United States Steel Corporation’s Robena Coal Mines for 46 years before retiring in 1980.
He loved to garden and spend time with his family, and most of all playing Solitaire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, May Bartoni; three sisters, Francis Shepo, Rose Stalewski, and an infant sister Mary Bartoni; three brothers, Dominic Bartoni, Rocco Bartoni, John Bartoni; and two granddaughters, Marie Elaine Buela and Lisa Marie Smitley.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Elaine Rockwell and her husband Edwin of Masontown, Pa., Samuel A. Bartoni and his wife Judy of Masontown, Pa., and Antoinette Smitley and her husband Jess of Amend, Pa.; his grand children: Tony Bartoni, Denise Bartoni and her special friend Vince Garufi, Angela and Bill Haley, Andrea and Howard Hyde, Thomas and Paula Rockwell, and Lori and her fiancé John Hardy Jr.; great grand children: Crystal Haley, Daniel Haley, Gianna Garufi; sisters: Laura Cianci of New Jersey and Catherine Urban of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania sisters-in-laws: Marty Sullenburger and Micky Bartoni; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family thanks the Nurses and Aides of Grane Hospice for all that they have done for Tony and also Antoinette and Lori for their very loving care.
Friends will be received at the HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., today, Monday, April 13, 2015 until 10:00 a.m., when a Blessing Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Father Ronald L. Simboli officiating.
Interment will follow at Saint Agnes Cemetery, Masontown, Pa., where Military Honors and Rites will be accorded by the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and the Fort Mason American Legion Post 423.
Any memorial donations are asked to be made to the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, PA 15401.
Visitation was also held Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m.
