Fayette County native dies in crash in W.Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Fayette County native was killed in a crash Friday evening on Interstate 68 according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
Adrianna Cole, 20, formerly of Brownsville, was traveling east on I-68 when her vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle driven Christopher R. McClure, of Fairmont, W.Va., around 10:35 p.m. between the Sabraton and Pierpont exits, the sheriff’s department said. Cole had recently moved to Morgantown.
Cole and McClure were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s department said.
Authorities said McClure was traveling west in the eastbound lane when his Ford Explorer collided with a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Charles A. Custer of Morgantown.
After Custer’s vehicle was side-swiped, McClure’s vehicle struck head-on into Cole’s Subaru as she was traveling east on I-68, the sheriff’s department said.
The Cole family said knowing that their daughter is in a better place helps them cope with their loss.
“Knowing that she knew the Lord, that she is with Him and the prayers of God’s people are just holding us up right now,” Rhonda Cole said.
Rhonda Cole said the loss of their 20-year-old daughter will echo an eternity for the family.
“We’re OK, but we’re not OK,” she said. “Our lives will never be the same.”
The Cole family had the McClure family in their thoughts and prayers.
“Our prayers and condolences go out to the McClure family because they lost a loved one too,” Rhonda Cole said.
Traffic was restricted in both directions of I-68 for nearly four hours.
Custer received medical attention at the scene and was released, the sheriff’s department said.
Cole is the daughter Rhonda and Minor Cole, formerly of Brownsville, now of Texas.
Adrianna Cole was night auditor at both the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and at the Waterfront Hotel in Morgantown.
“Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our associates. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adrianna’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Ashli Mazer, director of marketing and public relations at the resort.
Adrianna Cole was a graduate of Brownsville High School class of 2012 and a graduate of the Bradford School in Pittsburgh in 2013 with an Associate Degree in travel and hospitality. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Waynesburg and at one time, she sang with the youth band at Calvary Chapel in Fredericktown.
Sheriff’s Department said the crash is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department at 304-291-7260.
