State police have accused a student of assaulting a teacher at the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute (FCCTI).

Police alleged that Khalil Raseann Scott, 19, was causing a disturbance in a classroom on March 12 at FCCTI. Police said Dr. Edward Jeffreys, executive director at FCCTI, came to the aid of the classroom’s teacher, who was not named in the criminal complaint.

When Jeffreys arrived at the classroom, Scott became angry and confrontational and told Jeffreys that he was not going to do anything he was told, the complaint said.

Police alleged as Jeffreys continued his efforts to de-escalate the situation and calm Scott down, Scott approached him and pushed his chest into Jeffreys’ body, the complaint said.

Police alleged that when Jeffreys was pushed, he fell backward and injured his leg on a desk.

Scott of Brownsville was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment, according to court documents.

Scott was arraigned by Magisterial District Court Judge Randy Abraham, who set bond at $25,000 unsecured. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
