Fair worker accused of running man over with borrowed truck
A Florida man working at the Fayette County Fair is being held at the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bond after allegedly running a man over with a truck early Saturday.
David Lee Weaver, 55, of Cape Coral is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a vehicle, driving under the influence, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
According to the affidavit filed with the charges, state police were called to Pechin Road at Country Road in Dunbar Saturday at 2:28 a.m. for a report of a man lying in the roadway who had been struck by a vehicle. The alleged victim, Ryan Anthony Graft, had been flown by emergency medical helicopter before police arrived on the scene. He reportedly suffered severe head trauma and fractures to the right side of his body.
According to police, Katelyn Jo Oldham related that she and three others, including Graft, had been at Al’s Bar where there had been a brief altercation. Upon leaving the bar, Oldham told police, a red pickup truck followed her vehicle and was tailgating. She pulled over at Country Road to allow the truck to pass, Oldham told police, but instead the truck pulled beside her vehicle and two men got out, according to court papers.
Graft and Robert Dean Hall got out of her vehicle and an argument began, the affidavit states, at which time Weaver got back into the truck and struck Graft, who was dragged under the truck. A second man got back into the truck and left the scene.
The truck, owned by Kathy Sue Coates, was found at the county fairgrounds. Coates told police she had loaned the truck to Chris Murphy, who then led police to Weaver.
Police said Weaver was taken into custody without incident.
Weaver faces a preliminary hearing in Central Court Aug. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
