Fayette man sentenced for threatening president
A Fayette County man has been sentenced to federal prison for sending a threatening letter to the White House.
John Howard Savage, 34, of West Leisenring, was sentenced in federal court to 30 months in prison. Savage is already serving a 12½- to 25-year sentence in state prison for sexually assaulting two young girls and other crimes. Half of the federal sentence will be served concurrent to the state sentence, the remaining 15 months will be served after the state sentence is completed.
Savage was reportedly incarcerated and awaiting disposition on the state charges when he wrote a graphic letter detailing how he would kill President Barack Obama and kidnap and kill an undisclosed member of his family in October 2012. Savage mailed the letter to 1400 Pennsylvania Ave., but it still made its way to the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., in Washington, D.C., at which time it was turned over to the U.S. Secret Service for investigation. Savage could have been sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison for the federal charges.
