Phillip Gordon Workman Sr.

Phillip Gordon Workman Sr., age 54, of Friendsville, Maryland died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at his residence.

He was born on Thursday, May 11, 1961 in Oakland, Maryland the son of Lowell James Workman Sr. of Gibbons Glade, Pennsylvania and Judy Irene (Umbel) Sweitzer of Oakland, Maryland.

Mr. Workman was a Maintenance Supervisor for the Garrett County Government.

He graduated from Northern Garrett County High School in 1979.

He was a member of Cherry Glade Mennonite Church and the Elks Lodge.

He was also a member of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company since 1982 where he held the office of Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Board of Directors and Training Officer.

He was a coach for Central Garrett T-Ball, Little League and Hot Stove Baseball, Tri-County Basketball, Mad Dawgs and Steeler Football.

He was Central Garrett League President, a Cub Scout Leader and President of the NHS Athletic Boosters.

He enjoyed playing softball for the Mountain Fellowship Center, the Grantsville Church League, Frostburg and Tournament Play.

Along with his parents, he is also survived by his wife of 34 ½ years, Debra A. (Hanes) Workman; two sons: Phillip Gordon Workman Jr. of Friendsville, Maryland, Derek Gene Workman and wife Amy of Grantsville, Maryland; brother, Jamie Workman of Friendsville; three sisters: Pam Turner and her husband Rusty of Markleysburg, Pa., Mildred Durst and her husband Rick of Grantsville, Maryland and Karen Meyers and husband Rick of Seffner, Florida; brother-in-law, Michael Hanes and his wife Monica of Hampton Bays, New York; two sisters-in-law: Cathy Case of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, Dorothy Sisler and husband Eric of McHenry, Maryland; two grandchildren: Owen Gene Workman and Adelyn Joy Maust; nine nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; one great nephew; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grand parents, Quincy and Mildred Umbel and James and Edna Workman; and his father -in-law and his mother-in-law, Gene and Harriet Hanes.

Friends will be received at the CHERRY GLADE MENNONITE CHURCH, 4051 Accident Bittinger Road, Accident, MD 21520 on Thursday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m

Services will be conducted in the church Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Maust and Pastor Danny Tice officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will follow in the Cherry Glade Cemetery.
