One person killed in expressway accident

One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident on the Mon-Fayette Expressway shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday, according to state police at New Stanton, who patrol the road for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
According to the Fayette County Coroner’s office, Joann Johnson, 37, of Uniontown was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary report indicates that she died from blunt force trauma to the neck and chest. Toxicology tests will be conducted. According to the coroner’s office, Johnson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
According to police, the crash occurred off the roadway, involving two southbound vehicles. There were three people in one vehicle who were uninjured.
The crash occurred in Springhill Township, about a half-mile from the West Virginia line.
