Uniontown man charged after allegedly confessing to gas station robberies

A Uniontown man was charged with robbery and theft after he allegedly admitted to state police that he robbed several area gas stations and used the money to buy heroin.
William Steven Hall, 32, was at the state police station on an unrelated case when he allegedly confessed to robbing gas stations in Fayette and Somerset counties, Pittsburgh, and Fairmont, West Virginia on various dates in July and August.
For now, Hall is being charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person for the robbery on Aug. 8 at the Kwik Fill gas station on National Pike in North Union Township.
According to the affidavit, surveillance footage revealed the robber to be a man with red hair wearing denim shorts, black shoes, a long sleeve black shirt, a red bandanna over his mouth and a baseball cap. Authorities determined that the same individual was responsible for robberies at the Sunoco gas station and the Sweet Pea’s gas station on Morgantown Street the following day — both of which Hall confessed to committing, police said.
Police said additional charges are forthcoming.
Hall allegedly told police that he also robbed the Double T Bar and Sunoco station in German Township, the Karlyn Motel office in Georges Township, the Tri-Town Store in Vanderbilt, the South Side Grocery Store in South Connellsville, the Gulf Station in Star Junction and the Dollar Store in Somerset County.
He also allegedly told police that he robbed the Go Go’s Gas Station along Carson Street in Pittsburgh and the Shell Gas Station in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Police said Hall admitted to using a .40 caliber Ruger pistol in the robberies.
Hall is lodged in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $100,000 straight cash bond. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Wendy D. Dennis and faces his preliminary hearing on Aug. 31.
