A Connellsville man waived his charges to court after he allegedly escaped police, injured an officer and damaged a vehicle.

Steven Sleasman, 26, faces charges including escape, aggravated assault, theft from motor vehicle, simple assault and resisting arrest.

He accepted a tentative plea deal on that case and others that calls for him to serve 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison.

Connellsville police said they were called after he was observed breaking into vehicles July 22, police said.

He allegedly fled police, running into traffic on Route 119, jumping fences and running through yards.

When police were transferring him into a holding cell, he allegedly pushed Kurt Scalzott, a state parole agent, into a wall, injuring his head and back, and ran out of the police station.

Police chased him across West Crawford Avenue and down steps toward Water Street, they said. He jumped into a parking lot for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles where he landed on the hood of a car. Police said he ran across train tracks and into the woods.

He is in Fayette County Prison on a $50,000 bond.
