Elderly man struck by vehicle in Connellsville Saturday dies
An elderly man who police believe was walking to mass in Connellsville Saturday night when he was struck by a vehicle has died.
Thomas Vinoski, 83, of South Connellsville died at UPMC Presybyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh hospital Monday night, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s office.
Connellsville Police Chief Jim Capitos said Vinoski was hit by a vehicle while he was in the crosswalk on East Crawford Avenue in front of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church at about 6 p.m.
Capitos identified the driver as Kathleen Leighliter, 38, of Connellsville.
He said she initially fled the scene, but returned, arriving at about the same time as emergency personnel.
Police are investigating the incident and conferring with the Office of the District Attorney to determine what charges, if any, will be filed.
The Fayette County Coroner’s office said they are facilitating an autopsy at the request of the District Attorney.
“There are things we still have to look at here, and we have to make sure we get this right since this gentleman lost his life,” Capitos said.
