West Penn Power outage scheduled
West Penn Power customers in several Fayette County communities will be experiencing scheduled power outages on Sunday.
Chris Eck, spokesman with West Penn Power, said they are upgrading the substation and facilities. The power is expected to be off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 6.
“This will be a one-time outage for maintenance while we fix and repair equipment,” Eck said.
“It’s never convenient to turn off the power to customers, but we tried to do it at a time we thought would be most convenient,” he said, adding that there are roughly 2,800 customers in the area.
The affected communities are Adah, Allison, Brier Hill, Brownsville, Cardale, Chestnut Ridge, East Millsboro, Fairbank, Grindstone, Merrittstown, New Salem, Republic, Smock and Uniontown. Within those communities, only the portions that are serviced by the Merrittstown substation will be impacted by the outages.
Eck recommended that the impacted customers prepare an extra gallon or two of water to keep on hand. He also said they should avoid opening the fridge and freezer, as it lets the cold air out.
Officials at West Penn Power are attempting to reach out to those who’ll be affected by phone. West Penn Power’s Customer Service can be reached at 1-800-686-0021.
