Gilbert "Gil" R. Rendle Sr.

Gilbert R. Rendle Sr., ‘Gil’, age 93, died at The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster, Pa., Monday, November 30, 2015.

He was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, a son of Fredrick Rendle and Esther (Ryan)Rendle

He was the loving husband for 67 years of Elizabeth (Firestine) Rendle, who predeceased him in 2010.

Gilbert served in the United States Air Force during World War II as a Pilot and Pilot Engineer.

He attended Wharton School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania.

In over 40 years of banking, he served as President of three banks: People’s National Bank of Norristown, Pa., Meridian Bank of Reading, Pa., and Gallatin National Bank of Uniontown, Pa.

He was a member of the Pittsburgh branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and a life member of the Robert Morris Association (Risk Management Association in the financial services industry).

He served as Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Bankers’ Association and the President of the Board of Directors of Uniontown Health Resources.

Gil was active on countless community organizations, schools and hospital boards.

He is survived by two children: Ruth R., wife of William A. Wood of Lancaster, Pa., and Gilbert R. Jr., husband of Lynne B. Rendle of Haverford, Pa.

He is also survived by four grandchildren: Laura, wife of Robert Meisl of Lancaster, Pa., W. Jeffrey, husband of Kelly Wood of Millersville, Pa., Matthew, husband of Heather Rendle of Atlanta, Georgia and Todd, husband of Eva Rendle, of Narberth, Pa.

He was the proud great-grandparent of Alyssa Meisl, Matthew Meisl, Ava Wood, Sophia Wood, Edward Rendle, Carolyn Rendle, Henry Rendle, Calvin Rendle, Clara Rendle and Penelope Rendle.

A Memorial Service will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Duke and Walnut streets, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday, December 19th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Service.

Private interment will be held at Memorial Shrine Cemetery, 1831 West 8th Street, Wyoming, PA 18644.

In lieu of other tokens, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of First United Methodist Church, 29 East Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 or Camp Innabah, c/o Eastern PA Conference UNC, Post Office Box 820, Valley Forge, PA 19482.
