Ralph Charles Shumar, ag 90, of Fort Myers, Florida and formerly of Uniontown, Pennsylvania died Monday, November 30, 2015 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers.

He was born on Sunday, March 29, 1925 in Ralph, Fayette County, Pennsylvania son of Levi Christopher Shumar and Blanche Mae (Grove) Shumar, who preceded him in death.

Ralph was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Betty Louise (Sisler) Shumar; and a sister, Beverly.

Ralph graduated from of Duke University with a Bachelors Degree in Business.

He worked for the Crucible Steel Corporation, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in Sales until he retired in 1985.

During World War II, Ralph honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

He and his wife moved to Florida in the mid 1980’s. There they loved to play golf, bridge, poker and entertain family and friends.

He was a great golfer and card player. Bridge, along with poker, was his enjoyment; always ensuring amusement amongst the players.

Ralph was a compassionate father and grandfather, always opening his house for family enjoyment.

He was a true Mason who decided that he likes to feel good about himself and others.

Memories of Ralph include being frugal, stating ‘Free is Good’ and trusting Walmart to come through with inexpensive items.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Ralph C. Shumar II and wife Eileen of Ellicott City, Maryland, Darrell Shumar of Broomfield, Colorado, and Bonnie Marsh of Herndon, Virginia; seven grand children: Bobby, Megan, Eric, Sabrina, Adora, Amy, and Beth; great grandchild, Coy; two sisters: Dorothy Springer and husband Harry of Uniontown, Pennsylvania and Dolores Ross of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown Pa., today, Friday, December 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m and also on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Funeral Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Maley officiating.

Entombment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery Chapel of Memories Mausoleum where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543 and the Fayette County Vietnam Veterans Inc.
