Virginia Ruth (Freeman) Koontz Trees, age 89, New Alexandria, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Massillon, Ohio.

She was born in Edmon, Pennsylvania on Thursday, February 4, 1926 the oldest daughter of William George Freeman and Sara Ruth (Gartley) Freeman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William Leonard Freeman, Jack D. Freeman and Lee V. Freeman; as well as her two husbands, James H. Koontz (1974) and John Edward Trees (2013).

She is survived by three sisters: Betty Ann Rombach of Loyalhanna Township, Pennsylvania Patricia Shirley of Loyalhanna Township, Pennsylvania, Darlene Sue Duffey of Florida; two brothers: Raymond (Anna Belle) Freeman of Derry Township, Pennsylvania and Harold (Donna) Freeman of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Virginia is also survived by four children to her husband: James, Cindy (Koontz) Miller and her husband Dennis, New Alexandria, Pennsylvania, James L. Koontz and his wife Katherine of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Janet (Koontz) Behr and her husband Larry of Florida and Kathleen (Koontz) Beels and her husband Michael of Massillon, Ohio. Virginia was blessed with eight grand children; 17 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.

Following the untimely death of her husband, James, she was married to John Edward Trees in 1977. With this marriage she became the stepmother to five more children: John E. Trees Jr. (Barbara) of McClellandtown, Pa., Joan (Trees) Burns and her husband Ron of Florida, Patricia (Trees) Lowman of Normalville, Pennsylvania, Colleen (Trees) Leichlighter and her husband Randy of New Salem Pennsylvania Mark Trees (Janet) of Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania

She was a member of the Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria before moving to Dunbar Township, Pennsylvania where she joined the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

She taught Sunday School and also Vacation Bible School for both churches. She was also a volunteer for the “Project Linus” where she crocheted blankets for children in need at the Uniontown Hospital.

Visitation will be held today, Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of 215 Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria, PA 15670 (724.668.2248) www.NewhouseFuneral Home.com

Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at COMMUNITY UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1640 Keystone Park Road, New Alexandria, PA 15670 with Rev. Kathleen Shirey officiating

Burial will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, 483 Athena Drive, Delmont, PA 15626.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff members of Crossroads Hospice and also to Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care shown to Virginia and her whole family.
