Give-A-Christmas fund nears $5,000 mark
GOAL: $50,000
TOTAL: $4,980
The Give-A-Christmas fund is close to pushing through the $5,000 mark as another $225 in donations brings the current total to $4,980.
“I’m happy to see that the fund keeps growing,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “It’s a wonderful time of year to think of others. Remember that we want to raise $50,000 to benefit the Salvation Army but we only have a short time to do it.”
The latest contributions came from Uniontown, Newell and Dunbar.
Sparkle also received some nice notes:
“Dear Sparkle, May we all be blessed with peace and health. Merry Christmas to all,” wrote Betty Gaydos of Uniontown.
“God bless and Merry Christmas,” wrote Barbara Hoferer of Uniontown, who gave in loving memory of her husband Frank M. Hoferer Jr. as well as Henry and Freda Festog, Henry Festog Jr., Gene and Jackie Festog, Clarence R. Kelley and Frank and Helen Hoferer.
“Love and prayers,” wrote Donna Mehalek of New Salem, who gave in loving memory of her husband Joe Mehalek.
“Those are such kind thoughts, especially nice this holiday season,” said Sparkle. “And it’s also a good time to give. If you are thinking of making a donation, please do it today.”
Donations to the campaign will be accepted until noon on Dec. 23 with the grand total announced in the Christmas Eve edition of the Herald-Standard.
