A man was injured when his vehicle went off Route 21, flipped and went down an embankment and into a tree in German Township Monday.

The driver, who has not been identified, was the only patient. He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, said emergency personnel on the scene.

Masontown Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Charles Corcoran said the vehicle may have gone off the road because of slick conditions. It was raining when the call came in at about 4 p.m.

The extent of the man’s injuries was not known. Corcoran said the initial call reported the man was bleeding from the head and going in and out of consciousness.

“When we got here, he was conscious, alert and talking,” Corcoran said.

The severity of his injuries was not yet known.

A medical helicopter was called for transport, but was grounded because of weather conditions, he said.
