Marilyn C. (Kielbasa) Smith

Marilyn C. (Kielbasa) Smith passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at home with her family at her side.

She was born on Thursday, February 1, 1951 a daughter of the late Edward Kielbasa and Irene (Hegedus) Kielbasa of Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

Marilyn was in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Pennsylvania as a teenager.

She graduated from Brownsville Area High School in 1969 where she participated in both the Chorus and the Concert Band.

She graduated from California State College with Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and later received certification in the study of Gerontology also from California University.

Marilyn worked at Basco’s Stop and Shop where she met her future husband.

She also worked at Thrift Drug Store and then at Carlton Cards as Assistant Manager and Manager.

Marilyn loved music.

She was a talented Pianist and had a beautiful voice.

During the past 50 years, Marilyn was the Organist at Calvin United Presbyterian Church, then at Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, and finally at Dunlap’s Creek Presbyterian Church, as well as a substitute organist at many other churches in the community.

Marilyn also played for more than 60 wedding ceremonies.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

She also volunteered at the Center in the Woods for a few years.

Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her grandsons, going to the theater, gardening, and traveling with her husband and children.

Marilyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, David W. Smith. She also leaves behind daughter Melissa and husband Doug; son Justin and wife Amy; and her beloved grandsons: Zachary, Austin, Brayden

Also surviving are her brother, Edward Kielbasa and wife Joyce; sister, Cathy Petrosky and husband Larry; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob and Joan Smith, Bill and Laura Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandsons and all who knew and loved her!

Friends will be received in the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Tuesday, December 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in the GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 420 California Drive, Coal Center, PA 15423 from 10 until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Reverend Kenneth Scott Custer officiating.
