John Karl Ekas III, age 79, Uniontown, Pa., passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 in Lifecare Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born in Brackenridge, Pa., a son of the now late John Karl Ekas II and Eva (Vrotney) Ekas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Ekas.

John graduated in 1954 from Har-Brack High School.

He worked for West Penn Power Company for more than 40 years. He started his career as a Laborer at Springdale Power Plant. In 1969, he was transferred to the Hatfield Power Station in Masontown, Pa., where he received many promotions and eventually became Shift Supervisor.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed golfing.

John was very well liked in the community. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always supported and helped his family in any way he could. He was a remarkable man who will be greatly missed by his loving family!

Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife of 60 years, Carole (Steinhagen) Ekas; two daughters: Cindy Ekas-Brown and Marylee Ekas both of Uniontown, Pa.; son, John Karl Ekas IV and his wife Cyndi of Uniontown, Pa.; seven grandchildren: Phillip Brown and Kristen Brown of Uniontown, Pa., Brandi Liptock of Pittsburgh, Pa., Keith E. Liptock of Uniontown, Pa., John Karl ‘J.K.’ Ekas V of Uniontown, Pa., Randy Cluss and his wife Jennifer of Havertown, Pa., and Melanie Cluss Lott and her husband Greg Lott of Granville, Ohio; two great-grandsons: Trevor Lott and Ryan Cluss; sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen Steinhagen of Vandergrift, Pa., and Margit Steinhagen of Delmont, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m followed by a Service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Donald Kephart officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
