James Dallas “Jim” Smith
James Dallas Smith, age 79, of Dunbar, Pa., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14th at home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in McKeesport, Pa., on Friday, October 23, 1936 the son of James H. Smith and Nellie (VanFassen) Smith, both now deceased.
Jim was a 1954 graduate of Clairton High School.
He served in the United States Air Force on active duty from August 1955 through August 1959.
Jim retired from United States Steel Corporation’s Clairton Works in 1998 where he worked as a Deck Hand and Pilot on the tugboats supporting the river landing crew.
Jim’s passion was motorcycles and he belonged to the American Legion Riders Post 301 in Connellsville, Pa., the Ohio Valley BSA Owners Club, the Mon River Buffs, Leap and Links Motorcycle Club of Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Tom Clarke Riders.
Jim was also a Lifetime Member of the American Motorcycle Association.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Greta Lee Griffiths; two sons: James Robert “JR” and his wife Mindy of Connellsville, Pa., and Eric Ray of Uniontown, Pa.; one granddaughter, Jamie Lynn of Smock, Pa.; and two sisters: Marilyn Lewis and her husband Ken of Finleyville, Pa., and Nancy Fairley and her husband Tom of Emlenton, Pa.
Friends will be received this Saturday, December 19th, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa.
A Memorial Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
