Charles Clayton Smith “Clayton”
Charles Clayton Smith, age 89, Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in his home surrounded by loving family.
He was born in Upper Middletown, Pa., on Thursday, November 11, 1926 a son of Oliver W. Smith and Leola Mae (Franks) Smith.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and four sisters.
Clayton graduated from North Union High School with the class of 1944 and from Waynesburg College with a Bachelor’s Degree.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Clayton worked as a Butcher for Giant Eagle until his retirement after thirty-eight years.
He was member of the former Grandma Honey Singers and Dancers, a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center, and a Gold Medal winner in the Senior Olympics.
Clayton was an avid hunter and enjoyed being with family and friends.
Left to cherish Clayton’s memory are his loving wife of sixty-five years Mary Ann (Miller) Smith; their children: Kerri Smith of Hampton, Virginia, Cherri Smith of Uniontown, Pa., Terri Androsky and husband Tom of Uniontown, Pa., Gary Smith and wife Rose of New Salem, Pa., Barry Smith and wife Vickie of Harrison, Tennessee, Lary Smith of Conway, South Carolina; a sister, Sara Miller of Willowick, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where Family and Friends may call on Saturday, January 2, 2016 in the Funeral Home from 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. A Service Celebrating Clayton’s Life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Hixson officiating.
General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, Pa., will accord Military Rites and Honors at funeral home.
Interment will be private.
