Escaped inmate arraigned while police look for his brother
Family members allegedly assisted in a Greene County inmate’s escape from prison. They are now facing charges.
Waylon Hodge Hanlan Jr., 27, of Mount Morris was spotted in a black Honda Civic by a state police helicopter Tuesday, according to Trooper Matthew Jardine.
When ground troops approached the vehicle, the car stopped along Bald Hill Church Road near Creek Road Extension in Dunkard Township.
Hanlan and his brother, Shane Hanlan, allegedly fled on foot. Waylon Hanlan was captured after a brief foot chase. Police are continuing the search for Shane Hanlan.
Another man, Clinton Lee Hanlan, 21, of Greensboro allegedly fled in the Honda to West Virginia. Jardine said he was arrested by the Monongalia Sheriff’s department and will face charges after extradition. Charges of receiving stolen property and hindering apprehension or prosecution were filed against him before Magisterial District Judge Louis M. Dayich.
No charges have been filed against Shane Hanlan.
Waylon Hanlan’s sister, Vanessa Wendy Hanlan, 23, of Dilliner was arrested Sunday for allegedly helping him. She is facing charges of conspiracy to escape and two counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution. She was arraigned on a $25,000 bond.
Waylon Hanlan was charged with escape and conspiracy to escape and denied bail. He is lodged in the Greene County Prison.
The Pennsylvania State Police, U.S. Marshals and Monongalia Sheriff’s Department conducted a joint search for Hanlan.
District Attorney Marjorie Fox commended the departments for their “extraordinary efforts in apprehending this fugitive and in always working to keep our communities safe.”
