Andrew Kovach, age 98, of Greensboro, Pennsylvania died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.

He was born Tuesday, May 16, 1916 in Grays Landing, Fayette County, Pennsylvania a son of Louis Kovach and Helen Marie (Kreson) Kovach.

Mr. Kovach had resided in Greene County since 1922.

He started working for Duquesne Light, Warrick Mine and retired after 33 years of service and was a 60-year member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 6310.

Mr. Kovach also was a co-owner in two local mines: Sowden & Kovach Coal Company and the Valley Coal Company.

He served two terms as a Monongahela Township Supervisor.

Mr. Kovach coached Little League baseball in Greensboro and also volunteered with the local Boy Scouts of America Pack and Troop.

Mr. Kovach was a member of the Greensboro Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Treasurer, Secretary and Elder.

He was a member of the Valley Lodge No. 459 F & A. M., Masontown, Pa., Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Kovach enjoyed carpentry work, discussing politics and passing on the local history through the stories he told.

Above all, he loved his family by being a husband, father, grand father, brother and uncle

On Thursday, July 25, 1940 he married Pauline D. (Nassar), with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage, until her death Sunday, August 1, 2010.

Also deceased are his parents; four brothers, Steve Kovach, Charles Kovach, Louis Kovach Jr. and William Kovach; and four sisters, Mary Helen Kovach in infancy, Pearl E. Kayla, Helen Enoff and Ethel Mikita.

Surviving are a son, Andrew L. Kovach and wife Cindy of Morristown New Jersey; a daughter, Sandra L. Engott and her husband Raymond of Richmond, Virginia; two grandchildren: Raymond Andrew Engott and his wife Leslie and Courtney Leigh Masseur and her husband Paul; one sister, Margaret Tencer of Morgantown, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME (724.966.5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., where Services will be held at Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Randolph officiating.

Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro.

A Masonic Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
