Paul O. Sharp

VIRGINIA

On Tuesday, February 10th, 2015 at 9:30 p.m., Paul O. Sharp joined his Mother and Father in Heaven.

Paul Sharp was born Saturday, November 9th, 1940, (74 years old).

At the time of his death, he was retired and living in Gloucester, Virginia with his brother Jim.

Paul was raised in Uniontown, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.

Paul attended Saint John the Evangelist High School in Uniontown, then joined the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. During his time with the Air Force, Paul helped develop pictures taken by U2 Aircraft.

After serving the military, Paul and his brother Jim, a junior high school teacher, lived in Maryland and Alexandria, Virginia.

Paul was employed as a Program Designer for IRS until his retirement.

In his retirement, Paul loved taking care of his Mother and Father.

Paul also spent time volunteering at the Gloucester Visitor Center with his brother Jim.

He also volunteered teaching canoeing safety to grade school youngsters at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester, Virginia.

Paul was an avid bike rider and once rode from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Alexandria, Virginia and back again doing sections at a time.

He was also an avid runner, running upwards of fifteen marathons and numerous 10K and 5K runs.

Paul also loved bowling and came up with the phrase ‘slow the roll’ for his Wednesday Morning Team members, Jim and Doug, at Village Lanes in Gloucester, Virginia.

Paul dedicated a lot of his time to the local Alzheimer’s Association, serving as Honorary Chairman of the ‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ in 2013. He made several radio appearances to promote the ‘Walk’ on WXGM Radio in Gloucester, Virginia.

Paul came up with his team’s name for the ‘Walk’ — H2O — ‘Hope to Overcome’. Team H2O consisted of many of his good friends, relatives, and the Gloucester High School’s Girls Volleyball team.

Paul is survived by his three brothers: Jim Sharp of Gloucester, Virginia, Ed Sharp of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Joe Sharp and wife Christine of Marlinton, West Virginia; his two sisters: Mary Pidich and husband Jon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Anne Marcase and husband Bob of Irwin, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces, nephews; many cousins and good friends.

A Memorial Service for Paul will be held today, Sunday, February 15th, 2015 at the ANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 7192 Main Street, Gloucester Courthouse, VA 23061 (804.693.2366)
