Elizabeth L. ‘Betty’ (Hoover) Stein, age 90, Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at LaFayette Manor in Uniontown, Pennsylvania

She was born Friday, March 14, 1924 in Snake Spring Township, Everett, Pennsylvania to Harrison H. Hoover and Susannah Morris Hoover.

She graduated from Everett High School in 1940 and attended Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland, Maryland, and found employment with Maurice’s Department Store in Everett, Pa., the Department of Transportation, Bedford, Pa., and eventually for the Fayette County Republican Committee in Uniontown.

Mrs. Stein resided in Uniontown, Pa., for the past 65 years with her husband of 66 years, Robert H. Stein, who survives, along with the following family: a daughter, Martha ‘Marti’ S., wife of Rodney A. Clark, of Everett, Pa., and son, Robert R. Stein, husband of Sandra (Hughes), of Chalk Hill, Pa.; four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Beth, Mrs. Wayde) Hess, Wendy (Mrs. Curt) Evans, Lauren Stein and Jared Stein; five great-grandchildren: Ryan Hess, Rebecca Hess, Cameron Evans, Spencer Evans and Drew Evans; sister, Marjorie Felton of Everett; sisters-in-law: Dolores (Rice) Hoover and Eva (Hengst) Hoover both of Everett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jack Hoover and Robert Hoover; and three sisters, Hazel Martin, Evelyn Firebaugh, and Dorothy Sparks.

A dedicated home maker, Betty was an active member of the Uniontown Church of the Brethren.

She was also a long time member of the Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary, recognized for over having volunteered over 12,000 hours of service across her 39 years of affiliation, many spent making artificial flower arrangements, a natural complement to her great love of gardening.

Without reservation, Betty’s most passionate pursuit was caring for her family which she did with great enthusiasm well into her 90th year.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at LaFayette Manor for the outstanding care they provided for her in her final days.

Friends will be received in DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa., on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Additional visitation will be in the AKERS FUNERAL HOME, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, February 23, at 11 a.m.
