State police fire marshal is investigating a fatal house fire Sunday morning in Georges Township.

Fayette County 911 said the fire was reported at 4 a.m. at 164 Glendale Church Road.

Dr. Phillip Reilly, Fayette County Coroner, identified the man as Charles Hartman, 82, of Smithfield who was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m. Sunday by Deputy Coroner John Kondrla.

Reilly said based on the autopsy results, the manner of death is accidental, not foul play.

Reilly said Hartman collapsed soon after he exited his home, but succumbed to a combination of smoke inhalation and fumes as well as total body thermal injuries.

Reilly said toxicology results are pending.

Haydentown, Fairchance, Smithfield and Collier volunteer fire departments were assisted by Fairchance EMS.
