More charges filed against Jefferson man arising from raid of Demaske’s Tavern
More charges have been filed against Jefferson man who state police accuse of multiple accounts of receiving stolen property.
State police arrested Marko Demaske, 51, of Jefferson after executing a search warrant at a bar in Jefferson on June 20. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the search.
No further charges had been filed until Monday arising from the search warrant filed by state police.
Demaske was charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property as a result of the search on June 20 at Demaske’s Tavern on Route 188, according to Greene County District Attorney Marjorie Fox.
During the search, police found a Remington rifle that was later determined to be stolen in 2002 from a Cumberland Township resident, according to court records.
That warrant was issued by Greene County Judge Farley Toothman but was sealed by the court; however, the cover of the sealed document indicated that the warrant mentioned “any and all controlled substances, specifically crack cocaine.”
During Demaske’s preliminary hearing in August before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates, Demaske’s attorney, Neil J. Marcus, said police have yet to provide an inventory of the items taken into custody during their search of Demaske’s Tavern. He said police took cash, lawn equipment among other items.
State police Trooper Fred Gregg testified that police confiscated 50 firearms during the search. Gregg said when he questioned Demaske about how he acquired the firearms, Demaske said about 20 firearms came from his father, who passed away several years ago, another 10 belonged to himself and the remaining 20 he acquired from various people during the past several years.
More charges were filed Monday at Bates’ office.
According to the criminal complaint, police recovered an all-terrain-vehicle reported missing by the Preston County, W.Va. Sheriff Department. Police also recovered with a safe 2.32 grams of crack cocaine and multiple types of drugs — clonazepham, buphreophine and buphrenophine — the complaint said. Demaske didn’t have prescriptions for any of the substances found by police, the complaint said.
Police also recovered multiple saws and yard equipment, the complaint said. Police allege that the equipment belonged to various owners including Greene County Parks and Recreation, City of Cumberland, Maryland, Lane Construction and several individuals.
The complaint confirms what Gregg testified to about how police confiscated multiple firearms during the search in June.
According to court documents, Demaske, 52, was charged with 10 counts of receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
Demaske was arraigned Tuesday by Bates, who set his bond at $25,000 unsecured.
