Police search a wooded area in North Union Township early Wednesday afternoon for an individual who allegedly eluded police while officers were attempting to serve a warrant.

State and Uniontown police are looking for a man who wore a children’s Spiderman mask when he allegedly robbed a North Union Township pool hall last week after he fled from officers who tried to arrest him on a warrant on Wednesday.

Shane Nicholas Shipley, 27, of Perryopolis slipped away from state police who tried to arrest him on a warrant charging him with allegedly robbing JC’s Pool Hall on Coolspring Jumonville Road on June 22 at 4 a.m.

A police helicopter and officers on the ground searched wooded and residential areas around Laurel Highlands High School for Shipley on Wednesday. The search started late in the morning and continued into the evening.

A heavy police presence was seen along Greenpoint Circle, Lincoln Avenue, Cleveland Avenue and Lenox Street, all near the high school. City police are assisting state police in the search.

School officials said the school has been on lockdown since about 10:50 a.m. All summer school students have been dismissed, and all school activities for today have been canceled.

Shipley allegedly entered the pool hall wearing the mask and pointed what the lone female employee believed was a handgun from inside of his sweatshirt.

He allegedly demanded both cash drawers from cash register and fled after the employee placed them on a counter, police said.
