Hearing continued for man charged with sexually assaulting juvenile

CARMICHAELS — The preliminary hearing for a Waynesburg man facing numerous charges following allegations that he sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl on July 4 was continued Wednesday.
Benjamin Thomas Miller, 40, was arrested by Waynesburg police and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson on charges of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of a child, sexual assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors.
According to the criminal complaint, Patrolman George Lewis received a report at 2:50 p.m. July 4 of a sexual assault that had allegedly occurred at a home on North Morris Street in Waynesburg. Lewis interviewed a parent of an 8-year-old girl, who reported the girl had called to say Miller touched her while she was staying at the home.
The girl told police she was sleeping on a couch when Miller woke her up by shaking her, the complaint alleged, and then sexually assaulted her. The girl told police Miller stopped when he heard someone open a door, police said.
Police said Miller was interviewed and admitted to assaulting the child.
Following arraignment, Miller was placed in Greene County Jail in lieu of $250,000 straight bail. A new date for his preliminary hearing has not yet been set.
