Police accuse 82-year-old man with sex crimes
State police have accused an 82-year-old Connellsville man with allegedly trying to rape his home health care worker.
Police allege a 21-year-old woman was assaulted by John Francis Owade when she arrived for her regularly scheduled visit around 4:45 p.m. July 1 at his 1508 W. Green St. in Dunbar Township.
The woman, who was employed by Senior Life, had been visiting the home for five weeks to help Owade and his wife. Police said Owade’s wife was not at home at the time.
The Herald-Standard does not identify victims of alleged sexual assault.
The criminal complaint said soon after the health care worker walked through Owade’s unlocked front door, he allegedly greeted her by asking “Do you want to play a game?” as he pushed a wheelchair toward her in the hallway. Police said Owade was wearing only a green robe — which was untied.
The worker said that she didn’t want to play and then asked him to get into the shower so she could bathe him, complaint said.
Police allege that when the worker went into Owade’s bedroom to retrieve his clothes, he allegedly grabbed the woman by both wrists, pushed her onto the bed and got on top of her, police said.
Police allege that the woman kept telling Owade “no” as she was trying to get out from under and away from him.
The complaint said when the woman was able to pry one of Owade’s hands off her wrist, she pushed him to one side and jumped away from the bed. Police said the woman backed into a corner and held Owade’s clothes in front of her as a barrier between the two of them.
The complaint said Owade heard something outside his residence at some point, so he turned and left the bedroom to go into the kitchen. The woman left the bedroom and fled the scene.
Owade was charged with rape/forcible compulsion and indecent assault/forcible compulsion, according to court documents.
He was arraigned July 7 by Magisterial District Court Judge Richard Kasunic II, who set bond at $30,000 unsecured.
