Course offered

Community Builders of Greene County will offer an 8-session nonprofit leadership program from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Aug. 31.

The program, which explores leadership, nonprofit board governance, and financial management, among other topics, will meet every other Monday through Dec. 14 at the Community Foundation meeting room, located at 106 E. High Street in Waynesburg.

Applications are being accepted through Aug 20. The cost to attend the course is $150. A limited number of scholarships covering half the cost of tuition are available on a need basis. For applications and schedules, visit online at www.cfgcpa.org/commbuilders.html.

Deadline extended

The deadline for the state Property Tax/Rent Rebate program for older adults and residents with disabilities to apply for rebates of rent and property taxes paid in 2014 has been extended from to Dec. 31.

The rebate program benefits eligible state residents age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older.

Power line work

FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary West Penn Power is continuing a program to remove trees damaged by emerald ash borer located near power lines to help prevent service interruptions and enhance system reliability.

Part of a $31 million vegetation management program that includes work along more than 4,500 miles of power lines in the company’s 24-county service area in western and central Pennsylvania, the ash tree removal work will continue through the end of the year in Connellsville, Gans, Hopwood, Hunker, Phillips and Uniontown.

Dealer and broker bids: Corn, number 2, $3.96-$4.59, average $4.12; wheat, number 2, $4.97; soybeans, $9.63-$9.91, average $9.84.

Feed and grain mill bids: Corn, number 2, $3.50-$4.24, average $3.87; oats, number 2, $3.20-$4.35, average $3.95.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) market news hay auction report for central Pennsylvania for July 13 is as follows:

Alfalfa, premium, 725; mixed hay, premium, 305-345; timothy, premium, 250; grass, good, 240-280; straw, 110-250.
