Emilie J. Cupp of Hopwood was recently installed in Harrisburg as the first female Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization, founded in 1819 in Baltimore, Maryland. The order seeks to elevate the character of men and women, and thus create a better social environment for people. The principles of the order are friendship, love and truth; faith, hope and charity; and universal justice, which seek to promote peace and harmony throughout mankind.

In Pennsylvania, there are 77 Odd Fellow lodges, which meet on a regular basis. As part of her duties as Grand Master, Cupp will visit the lodges throughout the state and promote Odd Fellowship.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows seeks new members who wish to enrich their lives through the principles of the order. The lessons of Odd Fellowship are taught by impressive and solemn ceremonies called degrees. Community involvement is a priority of an Odd Fellow lodge.

Interested individuals can obtain further information by calling the Grand Lodge office at (717) 944-7419 or by calling Cupp at (724) 438-9001.
