Fayette County 911 said there was a collision involving a Connellsville police cruiser and another motorist around 2:22 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Routes 201 and 119 in Connellsville.

Connellsville police Chief James Capitos said two officers — Andy Hominsky and Pat Ruff — were treated at Uniontown Hospital. Capitos said Hominsky suffered a gash to the left side of his forehead after he hit the cruiser’s dash camera. Ruff, who was the driver, experienced some neck stiffness following the crash.

Both men were released from the hospital early Sunday evening, Capitos said.

Fayette 911 said the other motorist refused medical treatment. That person’s name has not been released to the media.

Capitos said the police cruiser was heavily damaged by the collision that was recorded by the dash camera. He said based on preliminary reports from the dash camera as well as the GPS and other technology used by police, the cruiser was hit when the other motorist ran a stoplight.

“We can repair or replace the police car — I’m just glad everyone was OK,” Capitos said.
