Lewis A. Mellinger
Lewis A. Mellinger age 93, of Dawson, Pa., passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.
He was born Sunday, September 4, 1921 in Perryopolis, Pa., son of Joseph Albert Mellinger and Ella Lucinda (Maxon) Mellinger.
Lewis was a proud Veteran of World War II having seved in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946.
He retired from United States Steel after many years of service as a Boiler Maker.
He loved the outdoors, so naturally he hunted, and he loved to farm.
Lewis was the last remaining member of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lucinda Jo; son-in-law, Barry Rimel Sr.; a grandson-in-law, Michael Skalecki; as well as his thirteen brothers and sisters.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loretta (Knight) Mellinger; a daughter, Sandra Rimel; grand daughter, Sherri Rimel; grandson Barry Rimel Jr. and his wife Jennifer; two great grandchildren: Chase Rimel and Emmett Rimel; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, March 27, 2015 until 1:00 p.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Melissa Snyder officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis.
Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gold Star Post 7023 and American Legion 752 all of Perryopolis, Pa.
