William James Conn

William ‘Bill’ James Conn of Vanderbilt, Pa. passed away on May 11, 2015 at home after a long battle with cancer.

Born August 29, 1945 to the late Dr. Ralph Edmond Conn and M a r g a r e t Regina (Moran) Conn. Bill was the last remaining member of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 yrs. Barbara (Gerhard) Conn who was always by his side.

Children: Karen Leapline Hiles, Chuck (Dana) Shallenberger, Herb (Melanie) Nickolson. Grandchildren: Brenan (Stefanie) Leapline Jr, Joseph W. Hiles, Kristen (Matt) Pavovish, Daniel Shallenberger, Brandon Nickolson, and Brittany Nickolson; Great Grandchildren: Brenan H. and Bentley Leapline, and Dane and Vivianna Nickolson

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Constance (Harvey) Conn and siblings Chloe Hester, John Edmond, Beverly Jane, and Audrey. Children: Kimberly Leapline, Brenan Leapline Sr., and Bonnie Shallenberger

William served in the Air Force branch of the United States military he was honorably discharged after serving his country in the Vietnam War.

Bill was an active lifetime member of the Disabled America Veterans Chapter No. 58 in Uniontown. He was also a former member of the River Junction Shooting Society and the SASS Shooting society. (known as Gatekeep)

He worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, previously working at SCI Waynesburg and retiring from SCI Fayette.

Bill was a man who was loved by many and will be missed by all.

The family would like to thank Karen for all her support.

There are no services planned at this time, but at a later time he will be interned into the Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
