Loretta Margaret (Liston) Winski
Loretta Margaret (Liston) Winski, age 95, passed away quietly in her sleep on Saturday morning, May 23, 2015.
The sixth child of M. Hayes Liston and Florence (Lightburn) Liston, Loretta was born in Gans, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, attended the Ben Franklin Junior High and Uniontown Senior High School.
Living during the Depression, she was happy to get a job with the Bell Telephone Company as a Switchboard Operator.
When World War II erupted, Loretta volunteered for the United States Naval Reserve Women’s Reserve or WAVES and served our country first in Naval Intelligence then as a Master at Arms in Washington, D.C.
After the war, Loretta attended Duquesne University where she graduated with a degree in Sociology.
She also met her husband George at Duquesne and they married on Tuesday, July 4th, 1950.
Loretta was a Case Worker for the Department of Welfare in Offices in Philadelphia and Baltimore until children blessed the family.
She returned to work with the Department of Welfare later in life.
Loretta was a parishioner of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown and was very active with the Ladies of Charity, The Christian Mothers, The Jefferson Club, and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
She donated her time to help run the Saint Vincent store, Uniontown
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Winski; and her siblings Monica Stickles, Norbert Liston, Kathleen Speace, George Liston, Marcella Hogan, Madalyn Inks.
She is survived by her children: George Jr. of Fort Collins, Colorado and Mark of Plum, Pennsylvania; daughters-in law: Susan DeLozier Winski Hall, Rita Winski and Sarah Winski; seven grandchildren and three great-grand children: Richard Winski and wife Courtney and daughter Julia, Yorktown Virginia, Timothy Winski of Las Vegas, Nevada, David Winski and wife Brenda of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, Brianne Winski and partner Hector Reyes and son Joaquin and daughter Sophia, Chicago, Illinois, Sharon Held and her husband Michael of Houston, Texas, Rachel Bunce of Plum, Pennsylvania, Annabelle Bunce also of Plum, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law, Camden Inks; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday morning until 9:30 a.m. when parting prayers will be said.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father James D. Tringhese as the Celebrant.
Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery (603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown).
