Redman unofficial winner for Register of Wills
According to unofficial results from the Fayette County Election Bureau, Jeffrey Redman is the apparent winner in the race for Fayette County Register of Wills.
Late night results from the election bureau showed Redman leading the race over Republican Ron Romeo by a tally of 14,673 to 9,566, or roughly 61 percent to 39 percent.
Redman is the son of Donald Redman, who has served in the office for the past 20 years. Donald Redman, announced in February he would not seek another term in office.
Jeffrey Redman said during his campaign that he would work to reduce inheritance taxes.
“In Fayette County alone the register of wills collects over $7 million in inheritance tax per year which goes directly to the state. The only benefit to the county is a minimal collection fee,” Redman said.
Redman has served as a Jefferson Township supervisor for the past 19 years.
Romeo is a Fayette County businessman.
Redman captured 56 percent of the vote to win the Democratic bid in May.
Romeo was unopposed on the Republican ticket in the primary.
