Newcomer top vote-getter in Connellsville Area School Board race
Students and residents of the Connellsville Area School District are gaining one new school director, and losing one incumbent, following Tuesday’s general election results.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Bryan Kisiel, a certified public accountant, who has run for a seat on the board in past years, was the highest vote-getter in the race and secured one of the five open seats on the board with 4,069 votes, according to unofficial election results from the Fayette County Election Bureau.
Jon Detwiler, who is currently serving his second four-year term on the board, and is the current board president, garnered the least amount of votes, with 2,041 votes. He appeared only on the Democratic ticket, after he failed to secure the Republican nomination in the spring primary.
In addition to Kisiel, incumbents Dan Martucci, Kevin Lape, Fran Mongell and Paul Harshman all secured seats on the board as well.
Martucci, of South Connellsville, who is currently serving his first four-year term, was the second highest vote-getter. He received 3,991 votes, according to unofficial results.
Mongell of Connellsville, who has served on the board for 20 years, received the third highest number of ballots, 3,782 votes.
Kevin Lape of Dickerson Run, who has served 24 years on the board, the longest of all incumbents, garnered 3,555 votes.
Harshman, who is currently serving his first term on the board, received the least amount of votes out of all incumbents; however, he earned another four-year seat after receiving 2,116 votes. He appeared only on the Republican ticket, after he failed to secure the Democratic nomination in the spring primary.
