Helen (Skerski) Richards
Helen (Skerski) Richards, age 88, of Grindstone, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home Friday, November 6, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Wednesday, November 24, 1926 in Fayette City, Pa., a daughter of Peter Skerski and Julia (Laska) Skerski.
Helen was a member of Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in Grindstone, Pa., and The Christian Mothers.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who decided after raising her children to pursue a career in Retail Sales for 25 years with Kaufmann’s, which is now known as Macy’s, in West Mifflin, Pa.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James G. Richards Sr.; parents; a sister, Beulah Skerski; son-in-law, David Bednar
She is survived by her eight children: James G. Richards Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Lorraine Schneider and husband Wayne of Grindstone, Pa. Rita Richards of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Walter Richards of Stafford, Virginia, Loretta Bednar of Perryopolis, Pa., Barbara Cossell and husband Mike of Speers, Pa., Caroline Richards of Grindstone, Pa., and Ronald Richards and wife Jacqueline of Perryopolis, Pa.; seven grandchildren: Natalie Foster, Meredith Sharpe, Wayne Schneider, Andy Schneider, Jessica Richards, Aaron Richards, and Amanda Richards; seven great grandchildren; her two grand-dogs: Sammy and Carson; sister, Katherine Klawiter of Chesterton, Indiana; brother, Walter Skerski of Jacksonville, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews and their beloved families.
Her family is grateful for the gracious, loving care of her caregiver Missy Tartar of New Salem, Pa., and a special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care of Uniontown, Pa.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Monday and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in Grindstone, Pa., with the Reverend Father James F. Petrovsky as celebrant
Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
