MIDLAND — Former state Sen. John Pippy is resigning from the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School board of trustees after just 18 months.

“He has stated that his work and military commitments have become much too demanding to dedicate meaningful time to the school,” PA Cyber chief executive officer Michael Conti said. “We thank him for his service to the school and to our country, and wish him the very best.”

Pippy, the chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance, was appointed to the board in May 2014 along with current board President Brian Hayden, the executive director of institutional research and engagement at the Community College of Beaver County and a former Beaver County communications director.

A lieutenant colonel in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Pippy served on active duty in the Iraq War. He served eight years in the state House and then nine years in the Senate before leaving in June 2012 to join the alliance.

Conti said there will be a search process to find Pippy’s replacement. PA Cyber, the state’s largest online school, is headquartered in Midland, Beaver County.
