1 min read

Monessen police charged Anthony Garofalo, 37, of 1115 Henry St., Belle Vernon, with false identification after he allegedly gave them the name of his deceased brother when they asked him who he was during a traffic stop.

Police alleged that Garofalo also had four empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, two metal spoons with burnt residue on them, three syringes on him, and also charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The traffic stop occurred on Reed Street, April 1 around 1 a.m., police said.

Garofalo was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped and supplied his brother’s name. Another officer recognized the name and knew the man had died of a drug overdose several weeks before.
