Robert Lee Cochrane Sr.
Robert Lee Cochrane Sr., age 90, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home in Masontown, Pa., with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Masontown, Pa., on Saturday, March 20, 1926 son of Clarence Cochrane and Lillian (Wagner) Cochrane.
After graduating from German Township High School, Class of 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, served during World War II and was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.
Before retiring, he was employed as a Mine Foreman at Duquesne Light’s Warwick Mine in Greensboro, Pa., for over 35 years.
He was a member of the former All Saints Church, now Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, where he served as a Lector, Usher and Choir Member.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 423 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 both in Masontown, Pa.
He was predeceased by his parents; grandson, Robert Cochrane III; sister, Ethel Mae Sinko and brothers, Clarence, Paul and Fred
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn Elizabeth (Sierzenga) Cochrane; his children: Robert (Debra) Cochrane of Hopwood, Pa., Evelyn (Neil) Lewinter of Sparta, New Jersey and Bruce (Nanette) Cochrane of Masontown, Pa.; loving grandchildren Brian Cochrane Sr. of Uniontown, Pa., Tara (John) Warrington of Washington, D. C., Daniel (Julie) Lewinter of Pittsburgh, Pa. Jessica Lewinter of Pittsburgh, Pa., Aaron Lewinter of Lawrenceville, Pa., and Danielle (Frank ‘Kevin’) Uglik of Masontown, Pa.; great grandchildren: Brian Cochrane Jr., Riley Cochrane, Brayden Lewinter, Kendall Uglik; and special nieces: Rita Mae Sinko and Denise Drew Gallope.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Ave., Masontown, Pa., today from 2 to 8 p.m and Wednesday, April 20, from 12 Noon until 1 p.m. when a Prayer Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, 101 West Church Ave., Masontown with Rev. Father James F. Bump as the Celebrant
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa
Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to: Masontown Senior Center, 22 South Main Street, Masontown, PA 15461.
Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by Masontown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and the American Legion Post 423.
