Donora man charged with assault on his birthday

By The 2 min read

A Donora man allegedly became intoxicated, punched a woman and stole a fence gate on his birthday Sunday.

Shawn Lamont Brown, 45, was found yelling on his porch with dried blood on his lip and a broken gate in his yard, police said.

He denied being involved in a fight nearby, which had dispersed when police arrived early Sunday, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police said Tammy Bass approached them and said Brown went into her house on Short Street and punched her daughter in the mouth. He allegedly refused to leave until he got into a physical altercation with Bass.

“As he left the house, Brown grabbed the wooden fence gate and ripped it off and took it with him,” Donora police officer Michael Parry wrote in the affidavit of probable cause.

Police said they deployed a taser on Brown after he kicked an officer and fought as they placed him in the police vehicle.

Witness Christian Lowe told police Brown was drinking heavily at his residence and “got out of control,” the affidavit said. Brown is charged with aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and two counts each of simple assault and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson and lodged in Washington County Prison in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
