A Mount Pleasant woman reportedly told police she made a mistake when she attempted to rob a Westmoreland County bank.

Police said Mary Elizabeth Clark, 69, drove to the First Niagara Bank along Route 981 in Mount Pleasant Township on April 21 and passed a note to the bank teller that stated her “family and grandchildren were being held hostage and would be killed” if they didn’t give her money.

Clark allegedly wore a surgical mask, sunglasses and a dark hat and used a mint green towel to conceal her license plate.

Police said the Clark allegedly left the scene before they gave her money “because she knew it was wrong.”

Clark allegedly told police that “she would never hurt anyone and it was a mistake,” adding that she had financial problems.

Clark was charged with attempted robbery, and is lodged in prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
