Robert Leo “Bob” Sterbutzel Jr.
Robert Leo Sterbutzel Jr., age 79, of McClellandtown, Pa., passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was born in McClellandtown, Pa., on October 20, 1936 the son of Robert Leo Sterbutzel Sr. and Margaret (Phillippi) Sterbutzel.
‘Bob’ graduated from German High School.
Robert served honorably in the United States Army.
Before retiring, he owned and operated Sterbutzel Construction and T & B Excavating of McClellandtown, Pa.
He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Masontown, Pa., Valley Lodge No. 459 F. & A. M. 32nd degree Mason, Masontown, Pa., a Shriner of Pittsburgh.
He was a Life Member of the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department and also the Edenborn Volunteer Fire Department and a German Township Road Supervisor.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Mary Margaret Matzus; brothers, Donald Sterbutzel, Rolla Robert Sterbutzel, Vincent Keith Sterbutzel; and two nephews, John Matzus and Richard Layhue.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia (Carrick) Sterbutzel; daughter, Robin Herring and fiancé Ed Yanik of McClellandtown, Pa.; sons: Patrick ‘Treek’ Sterbutzel and Stacy Newhouse of Carmichaels, Pa., and Robert ‘Bert’ Leo Sterbutzel III and wife Pamela of Uniontown, Pa.; grandsons: Zachary Herring and wife Brandi of Carmichaels, Pa., and Robert Leo Sterbutzel IV of Uniontown, Pa.; his sister, Lois Layhue of McClellandtown, Pa.; his brothers: Raymond Sterbutzel of Idaho, Kenneth Sterbutzel of Uniontown, Pa., Carl ‘Speedy’ Sterbutzel of McClellandtown, Pa., James Sterbutzel of McClellandtown, Pa., and David Sterbutzel of Florida; loving sister-in-law, Dolores J. Onifer of Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Also his faithful furry friends: his little man BeBe, Buzster, Bruzier, Brunno, Bella.
Family and Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Ave., Masontown, Pa., Tuesday from 2 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 17, until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Church, 101 West Church Avenue Masontown, with the Rev. Father William G. Berkey as the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown, Pa., where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by Masontown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and the American Legion Post 423.
