Elderly woman dies from injuries suffered in Upper Tyrone crash

An elderly woman died from injuries suffered in a head-on collision in July in Upper Tyrone Township, according to police.

Rita M. Carnes, 84, of Scottdale died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh days after the collision with a flat-bed tow truck on Kingview Road July 18, according to police.

Police said the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when Carnes crossed into the opposing lane of traffic for unknown reasons on a curve. Police identified the second driver as Jack Wells, 53, of Mount Pleasant.
