Michael “Mike” Mazza
Michael Mazza, age 88, Connellsville, Pa., passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in the UPMC Montefiore Hospital Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born December 1, 1927 in Connellsville, Pa., son of Ferdinand Mazza and Catherine (D’Auria) Mazza.
‘Mike’ was a member of Saint Rita Roman Catholic Church and The Holy Name Society.
For many years, Mike volunteered for the church’s pancake breakfasts.
He also coached the Saint Rita Basketball teams for 16 years.
Mike was a Meterman for Columbia Gas and was Union President of Local 12124 for 12 years.
Michael was a World War II United States Army Veteran.
Mike was Third Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Council 948.
He enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan — especially bowling and golfing.
Mike was predeceased by his wife, Dolores G. (Carbonara) Mazza; two daughters, Katherine Jo Burns and Bonnie Ann Mazza; brothers, Ralph A. Mazza and Vincent Mazza; and his parents.
Mike is survived by his son, Michael A. Mazza and his wife Natalie of Monessen, Pa.
Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville, Pa., 724.628.9033 Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 and 8 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Rita Roman Catholic Church, 116 South Second Street, with Rev. Father Daniel J. Ulishney as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Rita Cemetery.
