Arthur J. Barnhart
Arthur J. ‘Barney’ Barnhart, age 83 of Mount Pleasant, Pa., died peacefully, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Barnhart was born September 23, 1933 in Smithton, Pa., the son of the late Arthur and Helen Shefsiek Barnhart.
He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.
Barney was a 1951 graduate of the former Hurst High School.
He had been employed for over 43 years as an Electronic Repairman for U.S. Steel, Irvin Works.
He was an Amateur Radio Operator, Call sign W3SII, since he was 16 years old.
Barney was a co-founder and member of the Laurel Highlands VHF Society, having held each office, and maintained the repeater.
He was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fireman’s Club.
Barney was also a member of the Ministry of Consolation, and the Holy Rosary Society of Visitation Parish.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years: Dolores A. Novotny Barnhart; his daughter, Annette Barnhart of Lexington Park, Md.; and by his brother-and sister-in-law Joseph and Joan Novotny of New Salem.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the GALONE-CARUSO FUNERAL HOME, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.
A blessing service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Barney’s Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant.
Entombment will be in the Middle Presbyterian Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Township.
A parish wake service will be held Friday at 3 p.m., and the Visitation Holy Rosary Society will pray the rosary immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, 740 Walnut St., Mt. Pleasant, in Memory of Arthur ‘Barney’ Barnhart.
