Gilbert L. Grote
Gilbert ‘Gib’ L. Grote, age 91 of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gib was born October 1, 1925 in New Salem, Pa., a son of the late Paul and Cecilia (Miller) Grote.
A 1943 graduate of Uniontown High School, Gib went on to serve in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
On July 24, 1948 he married Thelma (Furin) Grote. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together before her passing in 2003.
Gib was a lifelong hunter and outdoorsman, who most enjoyed his time in the woods with his son and grandson. He was also an avid golfer.
Gib retired as a machinist from the Filbert Mine machine shop.
He was a lifelong member of St. Procopius Church in New Salem, Pa.
In addition to his wife and parents, Gib was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Grote, Herbert ‘Hut’ Grote, and Charles Grote; as well as his son in law, Arturo Romero.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Karen Romero, of Uniontown, Pa.; son, Gilbert F. Grote, and wife, Donna, of Uniontown; grandson, Alex Grote, and wife, Natalie, of Smock, and granddaughter, Devan White and husband, Doug, of Perryopolis. He is also survived by his siblings, Eugene Grote, Vincent Grote, Geneieve Garbutt, Rita Herring, and Loretta Grimes, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME, 20 North Mill St., New Salem, Pa., 15468, on Saturday, from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Monday, December 5, 2016, until 9:30 a.m., when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Funeral Mass follows at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, (Footedale worship sie) with Rev. Fr. William Berkey, as Celebrant.
Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by Hopwood Amvets Post 103.
